Wow! Great stuff TJ. Definitely a fresh approach to using new tools on the web for finding new business. Keep up the great work!
Wow, I have never watched such a well informed video before in my life!! Seriously, I cannot believe how much you just taught me in 15 minutes – I can’t wait for the next video.
Great Job dude, and thank you for doing that
That was a very well done video. I am in the process of looking for a videographer and this video even helped me!!!
Well done.
I wish that I could hire you!! LOL
Dave
Thanks! Hope you are making the other!
Terrific information for a long time videographer who has not used craigslist much at all. Much appreciation.
I’m scripting out the second video right now. It should be finished within a week…. I have a surprise for you guys to hold you over tho =P *coming soon*
Thank you!
I was impressed with the choice of wording, and the amount of details –all presented in professional, yet personal taste.
Interesting and informative. You are right, I am lazy (when it comes to the job search)!
Nothing to loose but a few moments, so I’ll let you know my results.
Thanks,
Lb
Excellent advice. Much appreciated.
Hi, I am very impressed with your video, it is TOTALLY brilliant and will help me a lot, I suspect.
I am the sports editor/crew commissioner/footage editor and script writer for an internet TV channel in my area of Wales, UK. The channel launched two years ago as a not-for-profit community TV channel only available on the net and enjoyed its 1,000,000th visitor (who lives in the Phillipines) last December.
I underwent intensive training by industry professionals including people who have worked for the BBC Natural History unit and SkyTV and gained a nationally-recognised diploma in video production and techniques.
The channel is mainly fronted by media students and eager volunteers with professionals like myself in the background.
But now I want to branch out and be paid for my work, and hopefully, your video will help me.
Brilliant, just simply brilliant! Good looking out. And in the future, I will hope to return the favor neighbor.
Brilliant video!! Now, how do you do when you follow the honor system with people you know, you do the shoot, the editing and then they take weeks or months, if not ever to send payment. I have emailed and called them about it.
I explained this is my only means of income even though I have been doing this for a year I still feel I need more experience which makes it hard to know how much to charge. I believe I am charging low (like $150 for shooting for an hour and editing a video for a website or $100 doing the same for a news website that has been around for 1 year in the NYC/NJ area). I own professional high def. equipment, lav mic, lights and my videos look professional enough. How do you make sure you get paid and on time?
Thank you so much for your videos!!! It is a gift because there’s nobody else doing what you are doing and you know exactly what the needs are for those starting in this field…God Bless!!!!
It is impossible to find info on the going rates for videography and/or editing for primarily news websites and for business websites. Any input on that?? That would be grand if you can shine a light on that subject.
Thank YOU!!!
Hi Nils,
Thank you so much for the great response to my video. If you’re charging people by the “honor system” and it’s not working out, create some contracts immediately. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just have it say “I will do this by this date and you will do this by this date”. If you want to cover your ass, find a paralegal to write it up for you (I wouldn’t suggest using a lawyer… they’re more expensive, and they’ll typically just pay a paralegal to do it for them =P) Good clients won’t be turned off by the contract. It’ll just make you look more professional.
Your prices are more than reasonable… and if your work is good (professional grade) I would suggest raising your prices… if people think your prices are cheap they’ll assume your work is cheap as well. As far as going rates… I wouldn’t focus too much on what the majority is charging. The best way to become successful quickly is to find someone who is already successful and mirror what they’re doing.
I hope this helps,
TJ
I saw this truly great post today.
